Abstract

Representation is a form of interpretation of student thinking about a problem that is used as a tool in finding solutions to given problems. Representation is useful to help students in solving a math problem that looks difficult to be easier. The purpose of this study is to describe mathematical representation ability based on Honey Mumford's theory of activist, reflective, theoretical, and pragmatic types. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study research type. The data collection techniques used in this research are questionnaires, tests, and interviews. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and verification stages. Data validity checking using triagulation technique. The result of this study is the mathematical representation ability of students in honey mumford theory activist type that students are able to represent well visual representation, symbolic representation and verbal representation. The reflective type is that students are able to represent well with visual representation, symbolic representation and verbal representation. The theoretical type of students is able to represent well verbal representation, while for visual and symbolic representation abilities in the sufficient category. The pragmatic type is that students are able to represent symbolic representations and verbal representations well, while for visual representation skills in the sufficient category.
